Syntax
=IFERROR(value, [value_if_error])Arguments
| Argument | Required | What it means |
|---|---|---|
value | Yes | The expression or value to return when it does not produce an error. |
value_if_error | No | The value returned when value produces an error. It is blank when omitted. |
Examples
Handle division by zero
| A | B | C | |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Item | Total | Units |
| 2 | Sample | 12 | 0 |
=IFERROR(B2/C2,"Check units")Result: Check units
The division produces an error because units is zero, so IFERROR returns the fallback text.
Common mistakes
Using IFERROR to hide an error that should be corrected.
Confirm the error is an expected case before replacing it with a fallback.
Putting the fallback value before the expression to test.
